After visiting Jax for the first time with my parents in 2010 (both native to NE minneapolis) we decided that it must be continued every year. Jax has a special way of giving you a sense of personal ownership. You walk in and from that moment on, the experience feels incredibly unique and personalized to you, and your family, or whoever you are with. It is a great place to come together and share something that feels like it is "yours". This is a gem of a restaurant - go at Christmastime for an extra special feel. Thank you Jax for always giving us a place to share stories, laughter, and great food!

I am a huge fan of the classic steak house. The dark wood and classic dishes creates an ambiance that reminds those in the know that people used to dress up and show some class when they went out to dinner. I went to Jax Cafe for the first time in 2007. The host (wearing a suit and tie) asked, "Have you ever dined with us before?" to which I replied I hadn't. Without skipping a beat he said, "Raise your expectations." I did and they met every one of them. Since then this has been my favorite steakhouse.

My parents John and Mary Jelinek has their wedding reception at Jax on May 24, 1969. Yesterday we celebrated their 50th anniversary with- what else? Brunch at Jax! Everything was absolutely amazing!

My family and I enjoyed a fantastic Easter meal with you. We sat on the patio, by the big window. Our waiter was fantastic, seeming to thoroughly enjoy our company. Thanks to you for you continued wonderful food and service!

In 1974, my girlfriend and I were told that Jax was one of the best "dress-up" restaurants in Minnesota. Despite it being 100 miles away we decided to give it a try. To this day we are still glad we did. We still look back on it back after 44 years. We are still together, married 43 years have 3 children, 8 grandchildren and expecting a great in June. We finally decided to come back and hope it is good an experience this time, so we continue to look back on the memory. Hope to see you soon.

Thank you so much!! Best birthday dinner at Jax....so thoughtful. Large round table by the fireplace for the eight of us. We had a fabulous time. Loved our waitress and the privacy to be a bit loud. Thanks so much Jax!

After feeling us out a bit [Sun 11/4/18] and learning we'd like to 'play', Bob provided us with as great interaction/entertainment as the meal was wonderful! Noticed he did same at another table but didn't at a third table = great reading of customers! We'll certainly return if he's there. Thank you!
Lolene "Ellie" Trulson
My family and I drop by Jax whenever we can for special occasions, and for a casual beverage out on the gorgeous patio. In addition to that the company I work for has placed catering orders with Jax (specifically box lunches), and we are always impressed with the exceptional quality of the food, and the thoughtful customer service offered by Bill and his team. Five out of five stars in my book. Thank you all.

Fifty-six years ago we became engaged at Jax Cafe, and it is sure fixed in our memories each and every year since our affection and our comfort with one another grows and blossoms. JAX is firmly fixed near the beginning of these 56 years.

Growing up in the burbs in the '60s, my parents were early foodies and huge fans of Jax. They ate there often, but didn't deem me Jax-worthy until I was a freshman in college. It was my first dining experience in a destination restaurant for serious eaters, and I still remember feeling so thrilled to be there!

JAX Cafe is more than your run of mill fine dining establishments. JAX even when very busy, will take the time to make sure that everything is to your liking and make you feel right at home. Their staff and management never keep you waiting. When you go to JAX, plan an evening on it. Come early for a cocktail or two then be seated. I'd like to thank JAX General Manager Michael Bazewicz for doing such a great job at making everyone feel welcome, and of course one of my best friends and best man in my upcoming wedding Server Scott Newes for his dedication. Book a table at JAX because I can guarantee you will not book just once.

I greIw up going to Jax. Every time I arrive, I feel this is my home. The food is excellent, the service is out of this world. I love the patio. It is my own oasis. The best part I love about Jax, is when I call or go online for reservations, I always get the spot I desire and want. Kolleen, the owners, and all the staff are the most precious people you will find anywhere. The bathroom for the Ladies is always clean. I love the piano musio on Sunday's. Lois Colburn is wonderful. I was at the Mari Gras Brunch, and it was so much fun. The Dixy music and the decorations were electrifying. I can't say enough about Jax Cafe, I love it, It is my home away from home. The woodwork, the feeling of comfort and coziness. Keep up the good work. Never let Jax Cafe die. Where will I go? Life is a banquet at Jax.

Jax Cafe remains in my fondest memories for the great meals I had there around Christmas as a child. A family friend would take my sister and I each year from the time I was eight, and I could order whatever I liked. I remember looking out the window to a courtyard, the classy décor, friendly service, and great food. I had my first meal of fried oysters at Jax! I hope to dine there again whenever I am in Minneapolis, I moved away to the south in 69', so my last meal there was about 50+ years ago! I live in Plano, Texas now.

We had our work Christmas party at your restaurant Saturday night. My wife and I are on a plant based diet. The menu offer for our party didn't have anything that fit a plant based diet. We told the server when we got there we don't eat animal based foods, so could we order some sides of vegetables. She told us she would talk with the chief to see if he would make us a vegan meal. He did and it was great. We did not expect that or ask for that, but you guys did that for us anyways. I just wanted to say thank you. You went above and beyond for us and we wanted to tell you how much we appreciated that. Again, thank you for a great experience.
Mary
That was a top notch rehearsal dinner that worked around the deacon wanting to rehearse the wedding – twice! We were starting on the second walk through when we were supposed to be at Jax. I have no idea how your staff still managed to serve very tasty food so very late. I had people coming up to me telling me how wonderful the ambiance was and also the food. My low salt needs sister said her pork chop was very tasty, too.
I’d like to especially say thanks to Juanita. She ended up being my “go to” person. She made sure the event was going according to my wishes and kept in touch with me throughout the evening. When the alcohol was flowing very freely, I asked for an amount already spent. She came back to me within a few minutes with the amount and then helped me with a solution that was hospitable and realistic (we had everyone do a final drink order). I know I wouldn’t have known how to handle this on my own.
The table set up worked well for groups to be able to visit. The artificial flower arrangements were mostly set on the floor, out of the way J, once people sat down, but your staff had no complaints. The staff was friendly from beginning to end, including the young man clearing tables at the end. All servers were friendly and seemed happy to be there. What a difference the people make! I’d also like to point out there was another large group outside our door that seemed well taken care of and other diners so it wasn’t like we were the only ones at Jax last Friday night.
We’ll be back next time we’re in town to visit the newlyweds!
I will also write up a review with 5 stars on Yelp. I’ll try to get that done before the weekend and will try to be specific in my praise so it makes a difference to those who read it.

I am so pleased that Jax Cafe continues to understand he expected dinning experience. My group had another excelland dinner and service the other evening. It is a treat to experience this in a restaurant today. I thank you Bill Kozlak.

I had never been there before and my boyfriend thought this would be a fabulous place for brunch. He has dined there several times before and with him growing up in the area he many great things to say about the café. I truly had the best brunch and the service and attention toward the guest is absolutely tremendous! I loved hearing the piano play in the background! I can't wait to return here for brunch again if not for dinner sometime. Thank you so much for a wonderful experience. Our server even fixed our somewhat of a weeble wobble table, LOL! Hope to see you again soon :-) btw... I bragged about it on Facebook too!!!!

My son and daughter in law took me and my wife to your place for my birthday dinner. It was fabulous and the waiter (Justin) did an excellent job. He was so attentive, had a great sense of humor and made the evening evening even better than it already was. The manager at the bar made a great joke about me being there and said that "if Dave's happy, then we're happy." The meal was for my 70th birthday but when we left, he wished me a Happy 40th! The food was prepared to perfection! Thank You Very Much.

Thank you to the entire JAX family for putting on a wonderful Easter Brunch yesterday. What a well oiled machine! From the reservation all the way to the dessert table, no stone was left unturned. Loved every minute. Thank you!

My first dining experience at Jax Cafe. This was my wife's birthday dinner with friends. The girls have been to Jax numerous times. First option, food, service, and quality was outstanding. Actually, we are making a reservation with other friends to dine on October 12th. They have not been there in years. Also, as a side line, sitting on the patio was like being in NYC, and going to Tavern on The Green in Central Park. JN

My grandmother lived across the alley from Jax when I was growing up - actually across from the funeral home there. We went to Jax several times when I was little (in the 70s). NE was an interesting, blue collar, eastern European "old school" place. Loved it so much! Perogi and Russian Orthodox families!. My parents brought me and my husband there for a special dinner right before they passed away (around 2005). Still have the cigarette matches that were given to us as a special keepsake. I live in the Seattle area but you (and NE Mpls) have a special place in my heart. Thank you.

Today we went to Jax for Joyce's 83 Birthday. It was my Mom, Girlfriend Dad and me. What a wonderful experience ( as it always is) With Monica as our server and the Chefs making such wonderful selections how could it be beat. From the salad table through the dessert course everything was special. I am the 4th generation to be coming to Jax and it will always continue....Thanks to everyone.

My grandmother Anna Gargas worked at Jax's in 1956. I love that the Cafe is still in operation and owned by the family same family.

My husband John and I recently celebrated our 50th Wedding Anniversary with family and friends at Jax. Our heartfelt thanks to Jane, your Banquet Coordinator, who thought of & helped plan every detail - from hors d'oeuvres, to the menu -seating, D.J. & video arrangement. The Meals were served by your attentive Wait Staff, hot and each one -Chicken Beef & Pork - delicious. In fact, we received thank you notes from several quests who raved about the "delicious dinners and excellent service!" Our thanks to Roxanne and staff and the Bartenders as well, for helping to make our Anniversary special from beginning to end!

When my grandson was five or six, Jax let him net his own trout from the stream, then cooked it for him...he was soooo excited! Best trout he ever had!

My husband, Dave, and I met for our first date at Jax Cafe on July 1, 2005! It was love at first sight! He had the date engraved on the match books (of course). It has always been out special spot since this time. When we decided to marry we of course picked Jax as our wedding spot. We got married on June 17, 2008--we had our ceremony in the garden on a Tuesday afternoon. It was perfect! The weather was perfect and our guests had a great time. Whenever we celebrate a special time in our journey, we often pick Jax as the spot. Jax holds such good memories for us. We love it! Thank you!

I placed this note on Facebook and it was an all-time, enthusiastically received Lunched at venerable Jax, Northeast Minneapolis. Good food and service, Gracious old-world ambience launched during depths of the Great Depression.
Tom Colling
My professional association has been holding its monthly membership lunches at Jax for well over 10 years. Time and time again, the banquet staff's service is top-notch. I want to especially thank Liz. She always has a smile and makes you feel very welcome.
Steve Ditty
My wife and I were married in 1976 and moved in across from Blakey's Bakery a few blocks from Jax. We enjoyed many Valentines days there with the violins and music. Jax always made you feel as if you were special and that there are really great places like this.
Alicia Hannawell
This was our first time at Jax Café and had a fantastic experience! We purchased a Groupon because we heard good things from friends, they were not mistaken. The servers and manager were attentive without being overwhelming, and the food was absolutely wonderful! We would recommend to anyone wanting to celebrate a special occasion or just wanting a fabulous meal!
Carole Van Valkenburg
My dad who is now deceased, worked at Waterman-Waterbury Furnace at 1121 Jackson St (now the Waterbury Building) He would go for lunch at Jax quite often. So when I go, I think about him and maybe feel his presence a little bit. It's very cool.
Dave Grishaber
My wife and I were married 10-24-75 in Menasha Wisconsin. We were only 20 years old and far from experienced travelers. We honeymooned in Minneapolis because we, quite frankly, didn't know were else to go. We visited Jax and we had a very nice waitress who helped us pick out live Lobsters. She even showed us how to tell the sex of the Lobsters. Once served my wife found out one of her Lobster claws was not cut or cracked through. She gave it to me and I used two forks to crack it. It was difficult but I succeeded in a big way getting Lobster in my hair and on my clothes and in the process I stuck one of the forks a half inch deep into the woodwork of the wall of the booths. We laughed and it has been a story told ever since. We are going back to Jax together for the first time in 40 years on 10-24-15. I plan to get there early and tell the story and see if the marks are still in the wall, and if possible relive the memory in the same booth

My mother and Sister-in-law both had worked at Jax. When I was in high school I also got hired as a busgirl. I met local celebrities like Wendel Anderson and Carl Ehler. It was a great place to work and almost felt like a big family. On May 12th 1974 I met the man that would be my future husband. Dan was also one of the busboys. Little did I know then that ten years later to the date would be our wedding day! We have enjoyed going back to have dinner many times. Great food, great restaurant.

Deb & John's 40th Wedding Anniversary
Storyline: Our crisp Saturday evening started with the arrival of immediate family members - some first time guests to Jax - eagerly awaiting the main attraction, Deb & John. Spirits were readied courtesy of Deb & John's son Andrew from afar (Denver-based)as daughter Martha declared the origin of the first toast. Cameras were flashing and capturing the moment. The party transitioned to the dining room, colorfully festooned with all of the Christmas splendor reminiscent of their nuptials from years past. As Kodak moments continued, the patio did look inviting to stage another festive photo with the fire aglow however collective wisdom prevailed and we opted to return in seasonally-correct garb. Martha provided the second toast with traditional bubbly. Our waitress was very friendly, attentive and eager to ensure our celebration was one to remember. The food was stellar! Stories were shared by Deb & John...clearly a classic night in a classy establishment that will be made for the memory books. Thank you, Jax. We'll be back!

I had an opportunity to eat at Jax for the first time yesterday. The food was wonderful. My steak was perfectly prepared and delicious. Our servicer was very attentive and friendly. I am wondering if you are willing to share your recipe for the AuGratin potatoes. They are the best I have ever tasted. You can be sure we will be returning to Jax in the future.

My mom grew up near Jax, so it was a natural choice for their anniversary (and also their 50th!). Her father once took them there, caught his own trout, and was surprised to see it served with the head still on. Gave everyone a big laugh back then, and again today when the story was retold. Good memories re made at Jax. Today was such a special day, we were treated like family. Our server Mary was wonderful, very accommodating. The food was simply tantalizing, so many delicious choices that Mary helped describe. It is definitely a go to place, I live in Gig Harbor, WA, and there is no place like that in my town. Lucky you who live nearby and can make it a regular place to go. My parents were busy so I tried to verify the head count, but of course I got it mixed up. It seemed to keep changing, or someone didn't show, or someone didn't eat, etc., and I didn't realize that. Michael, the General Manger, we so gracious in helping me to straightenit all out, as confusing as it was (my own fault). Customer service is just as important to them as serving delicious food. I can't wait to come back into town and catch my own trout!

Our youngest son had his "Grooms Dinner" at Jax Café five years ago, it was outstanding. Five years later, he and his wife flew up here from Dallas, TX to have their 3mo old twins "Baptized." There were twenty in our party, Jax of course was the choice for the celebration. Finest service, and the food... never a complaint. Thank you for making our entire party feel welcome and comfortable. We were there on Sunday, 8/31/2014. Some of our guests enjoyed catching a glimpse of the fish in the stream on the outdoor patio. Exquisite!

I have been eating at Jax for 50 years. Yours is a classy and traditional establishment. You've done a great job of making sure all generations enjoy fine dining. Food is always excellent and I can tell you train your wait staff.
Joann Howitz
Today a group of us came to brunch to celebrate my daughter-in-laws birthday. We were all pleased with the reception we received and with the food. To start things off, I had to change the number in the group three times. Each time I was treated graciously - the last time I changed the number was when I arrived early for our reservation. I sat down in the bar area to wait while a table was added. Immediately a glass of ice water appeared. I said I was just waiting to be seated for the brunch. The reply was "I know but it is nice to have something to drink while you wait!" The same thing happened when the next two in the group arrived before the tables were ready. To think that ice water could be such a treat! The other comment was that everyone raved about the bacon - it was delicious and "not salty like some". Thank you for making this a special occasion!

Headline: My Parents' Golden Wedding Anniversary
Storyline: Have celebrated a number of special occasions and family milestones at Jax, the most recent being my parents' 50th Wedding Anniversary last night (7/26/24). Everything~and I do mean everything~from the lovely room, to the incredibly warm & gracious staff, to the fantastic food was absolutely SUPERB! I would expect nothing less from Jax, ;-), but everyone went above and beyond to ensure my parents' Golden Wedding Anniversary was so, so special. Thank you, Jax!

My boyfriend Dave and I were looking for somewhere special to celebrate our seventh year together..so glad we settled on Jax. I really should not use the word 'settle' because we were blown away by the whole experience. The flavorful dinner, the setting (right next to the gorgeous patio-next time we WILL sit there!), and the service were nothing less than impeccable. We both cannot wait to go back!!
Shirley Petersen

My Mom and sisters have been meeting at Jax for lunch for over 20 years. Two years ago my sister passed away but we still had a spot for her at the table. We love this tradition and the food, it alwys makes the holiday a little brighter,

I'm 84 , but I remember when we lived across the street from JAX my mother would say let's get a delich hamburger. I WAS 12 YRS OLD , I would go across the street and watch the fish in your fish tank while I waited for our burgers. Always the best place in town for every thing
Lindsey Tieben
At the suggestion of a friend I made dinner reservations for a party of 12 to celebrate my parents 40th Wedding Anniversary. I was nervous picking a place for such a special event without having been there before, but Jax Cafe exceeded my expectations on every level. The food and service was outstanding! From the moment I made reservations they made everything so easy. They set us up with a beautiful table in the corner of the restaurant that was quiet enough so that we could all hear each other and it overlooked the gorgeous area outside. They also pleasantly surprised us with matchbooks inscribed with my parents names and anniversary-what a wonderful touch! I was also able to bring my own cake which Jax graciously stored in their fridge. Then our wonderful server brought it out for my parents to see and get pictures with before cutting and serving it. What a fantastic experience all around-I'm just sorry its taken me this long to go there. We will definitely be back!
Karla Dombrock
My husband & I are celebrating our 25th anniversary and Jax has a special place in that celebration. Our first real date (previously only a walk & phone calls since we met through a Christian dating service)was meeting at Gloria Dei Lutheran church in northeast Minneapolis & then my now-husband took me to Jax. I had never been there or even heard of it. I thought the brunch was delicious & so did he. The restaurant was special as we could look out at beautiful landscape & everything was there was lovely. I unfortunately was so nervous I ate like a bird (what a waste!lol) but we both enjoyed the meal. I was very impressed with his choice of restaurants. We've lived in different places so we've never been back but tomorrow we are re-entacting this entire first date with our 2 children(23 & 13 years old). I'm so looking forward to it.

The first time I remember going to Jax was with my parents and grandparents, Jax has been part of my Family's celebrations for as long as I remember. Past celebrations with Family who are no longer with us. When I walk in the door I have memories flood in of Great Aunts and uncles, Anniversary's and birthdays. Now I take my children to your wonderful restaurant and I know they are gathering great memories too. Whether the garden in Summer or the Christmas decorations in Winter, it is always a warm wonderful place to celebrate!Over 50 years of Celebrations
Juanita White
I just wanted to let you know that our family had the best time at your Christmas festivity. I thought the special children's buffet (a table at their height and with their favorite foods) was brilliant. Santa was the best I have ever seen. So much so that, at 61, his was the first Santa lap I had even sat upon! The children are getting up there in age but much to our delight, they were pleased that the Santa was at Jax Cafe. Everyone (age 9 to 65) loved the face painting and we all got in the mood and wore our paintings proudly all day much to the pleasure of the many shoppers we encounter that afternoon. I think I would trade the cartoons for Christmas Carolers singing Christmas songs that kids would know and that the patrons could join in with, if desired. Other than that, a perfect morning. Thanks for a great day. jgw

We had the best time Sunday night at the Strings Dinner. The meal was fabulous. Our server, Scott was the best and the entertainment was not only legendary but a treat for the soul. Thank, Jax!
Ron Hustvedt
My birthday and my wife's birthday are one day apart (and one year apart) so for the last decade we've been going to our favorite dinner for a double-duty birthday celebration. It is a wonderful place to go to spoil each other, share great conversation over a delicious meal with delicious wine, and enjoy a decadent dessert together. We've gone from being singles on a date, to newlyweds on a night out, to having to secure babysitting the last five years...but we'll do whatever it takes to have matchbooks for each other "Happy Birthday Sharon' and "Happy Birthday Ron" every year. Thanks Jax for your wonderful service, delectable food, and beautiful ambience. See you around December 6-7 each and every year.
Sam & Jessica Koza
My wife and I live in downtown Minneapolis and we see the surge of new restaurants crop up all over town by chains and new chefs. We try them.. we usually don't go back. We find ourselves coming again and again to Jax Cafe - its our anniversary spot, birthday spot and if we're home for the holidays.. it's our spot then to. The old world charm, mixed with consistently good service and a great menu have won us over permanently. And in the summer time, the outside seating area is a little corner of heaven. Thanks to Bill Kozlak and the Jax Cafe Family for enduring the test of time and doing it right.
Michelle Wiliams
When I turned 13 (in the 60's) my father decided it was time I went to a nice restaurant for dinner and learned how to eat and act like a lady. He made reservations and we all got dressed up to go there. As my dad parked the car he left mom & I off at the door. I walked in and saw the lobsters in the tank and could hardly believe it when mom said they served those lobsters for dinner. When the waitress came to our table and asked what we were having I got to order first, since it was my birthday. I ordered the lobster! My mom and dad were so surprised they hardly knew what to say. To this day every time we eat a Jax the lobster story is a topic of conversation.
Susan Van Duyn
What more fitting place to celebrate our grandson's accomplishment of walking, especially walking into Jax! One of many family events made special here. Looking forward to Breakfast with Santa brunch. The best service and food!
Jon Trettel
I've hit all the streak places in town...and I've yet to find anything remotely close to what Jax offers!!
Barbara White
We have been celebrating our wedding anniversary every year in July at Jax for many years. This year will be our 32nd anniversary and will once again celebrate at Jax. Food and service are always above and beyond One year we decided to break out and celebrate elsewhere...what a disappointment...have not made the same mistake again. Thanks for all of your years of good food and service Jax...see you next week.
Linda Valentine-Dean
I never miss an opportunity to visit Jax and you never fail to provide the perfect evening. This time was no different. Stopping over in Minneapolis for an evening gave me the perfect chance to visit old friends and where better than at Jax. I was driving to Duluth the next day to walk in the Kay Marie Sisto Memorial Walk, but Jax had to be the first stop. I introduced my business partner to your spectacular restuarant and met three of Minneapolis locals. Our party of five spent at least three hours dining, laughing and catching up. The meal was excellent, the wine wonderful, the service superior as always. I tell people all the time, if you go to Minneapolis you must eat at Jax, it is my favorite place in the country! I travel at least 250 days a year and have the opportunity to sample a great number of resturants, you remain my favorite.
Jerry Anderson
I just tried writing a comment on your service and then it was somehow deleted, from what I could tell. So, I must submit another comment- just in case the first did not get submitted. I have been going to Jax for a long time. I lived across the street in the yellow Victorian for a number of years. I took my father, in his final weeks, to your restaurant, for his last fine dining dinner. I have always told others that Jax food and service are a notch above the others in the five star dining world. For some reason the service at the bar- whether it be a simple Beam and Coke to a more complex Mojito or Mint Julip, have always been so perfect. I have those same drinks in other bars, but for some other reason the quality of the beverage, as well as the service, has always been exemplary at your establishment. Today I realized that the common denominator of that service has been your server Rich. He has always treated me and my family and friends with the best service. I don't even think he knows who I am- but because of his exemplary service I get treated with the same quality service as everyone else. I run a consulting firm for over 30 school distric ts in and around the metro area and the kind of professionalism that Rich brings to the table is exactly what I expect from my staff. His kind of integrity is a dying breed in this day and age. Thank you Rich for your kindness and your service over the years. I will continue to frequent your establishment because of his kind of service. And he is certainly not the only one... I will be back to watch the Belmont Stakes. See you then!
John Pedersen
Jax has always been a place I go to since the late 70's, It started in high school for a special homecoming dance. Even though we were "kids" the wait staff treated is like we were royal, a table by the window and never a felt of being rushed. Since then when a niece or nephew completes high school or college I take them there for Special Dinner or Brunch...ok I admit for high school they get Lunch there but it is still always special Thanks for always being there.

Now a tradition, great food, totally kid friendly, grandparents really love it, we all love it!
